The Mama Exchange is a nonprofit community rooted in compassion, dedicated to supporting mothers in Central New Jersey by providing free baby and maternity essentials through peer-to-peer giving. We believe no mom should face motherhood alone or without the resources she needs. Through connection, generosity, and shared experience, we aim to lift, nurture, and empower every mama—because it truly takes a village.
Our Story
The Mama Exchange was born from both personal experience and a deep understanding of the challenges many mothers quietly face.
Our founder, Nikki Desvousges, launched the organization after the premature birth of her child and a sudden introduction to life in the NICU. That season was overwhelming—not just emotionally, but logistically. The need for baby gear, clothing, and maternity essentials became immediate and pressing. What started as a moment of personal need quickly turned into a realization: countless other moms are navigating similar struggles—often alone, and without the resources they deserve.
At the same time, Nikki noticed how many families had gently used or even brand-new items they were eager to donate, but didn’t have a trusted, mom-to-mom space to do so. That gap inspired The Mama Exchange—a community-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting mothers in need with those who are ready to give.
Founded in Central New Jersey, The Mama Exchange now serves as a safe and welcoming place for moms to share maternity and baby items—completely free of charge. But more than that, it's a place where empathy and generosity thrive, and where moms lift one another through every season of motherhood.
We believe in the power of community, the importance of dignity, and the beauty of giving without condition. Because every mom deserves support, and no one should have to do this alone.
