OUR FOUNDER
Hi, I’m Nikki Desvousges — a proud mom, HR professional, and the founder of The Mama Exchange! After giving birth to my preemie baby who spent time in the NICU, I found myself overwhelmed, not just by the emotional toll, but by how quickly the need for support, baby essentials, and community became clear. In that vulnerable moment, I realized I wasn’t alone. So many moms were quietly struggling—whether it was affording maternity clothes, accessing baby items, or just needing someone to say, “You’re not in this alone.”
With over eight years of experience in Human Resources, my career has consistently centered on helping people grow, feel supported, and navigate life’s transitions. That passion naturally carried over into motherhood, inspiring the creation of The Mama Exchange—a nonprofit rooted in kindness, where moms in Central New Jersey can give, receive, and connect freely and without judgment.
What started as a personal need became a mission to ensure every mom has access to the essentials and emotional support she deserves. Whether you’re here to donate or to receive, you’re part of a village that lifts each other up, because motherhood was never meant to be done alone.
Why Was "The Mama Exchange" Created?
When I had my baby boy this March—born early and sent straight to the NICU—I found myself overwhelmed, underprepared, and in need of support in ways I never imagined. The experience opened my eyes to just how much moms go through, and how many of us are quietly struggling—from pregnancy, to birth, to postpartum, and beyond.
What started as me needing help turned into something much bigger: I realized how many other moms are out there in similar situations. Whether it’s not having enough maternity clothes that fit, struggling to afford baby essentials, or just needing a little kindness in a hard moment, we all could use a village. At the same time, I kept seeing how many moms have gently used (or even brand new!) baby items, toys, or clothes they no longer need—and they’re so happy to give them to someone who truly needs them. That’s when the idea for this group was born.
The Mama Exchange is a place where we can give, receive, and support one another without judgment or pressure—just pure, mom-to-mom kindness. Whether you’re in a season of giving or a season of needing, you’re welcome here. Let’s build a community where no mama feels alone, and where we lift each other up—one onesie, bottle, stroller, or kind word at a time.
